The quake hit only two days after Pakistan felt two more on May 10. Business Standard

On Monday afternoon, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake hit parts of Pakistan, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at 1:26 pm IST. This latest quake follows a series of recent seismic events in the region. Experts are keeping a close watch on the situation due to the increased earthquake activity.

Another Tremor in Just Two Days
This earthquake comes just two days after two other earthquakes shook Pakistan on May 10. The first tremor that day was a 5.7 magnitude quake in the morning, and the second was a 4.0 magnitude quake later that day. Despite the series of strong earthquakes, no immediate reports of major damage or injuries have been received yet.

Rising Concerns About Shallow Quakes
Experts are worried about the ongoing seismic activity in the region. Shallow earthquakes, like the ones felt recently, are known to cause stronger shaking on the ground. These quakes can be more dangerous because their effects are more intense compared to deeper ones. Experts continue to monitor the situation to assess the potential risks.

Earthquake-Prone Region
Pakistan is located along the boundary of two major tectonic plates: the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. This makes the country one of the most earthquake-prone areas in the world. Provinces such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are especially vulnerable due to their proximity to major fault lines. These regions often experience frequent seismic disturbances.

Recent Earthquakes in May
On May 5, two separate earthquakes rocked Pakistan and Afghanistan. A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Chitral District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, close to the Afghanistan border. This quake happened around 4 pm IST. Earlier that day, Afghanistan also experienced a 4.2 magnitude tremor at 12:35 pm IST. Both quakes caused little to no damage, and no casualties were reported immediately.

The region’s frequent seismic activity continues to raise concerns. With Pakistan’s vulnerability due to its location near active fault lines, residents are urged to stay prepared. Although no immediate harm has been reported from the latest earthquake, the risk of stronger quakes remains a concern for the coming days.
