Brad Marchand lit up the night in dramatic fashion as the Florida Panthers tied the Stanley Cup Final series 1-1. In a nail-biting Game 2 against the Edmonton Oilers, Marchand scored twice — including the game-winner in double overtime — to lead the Panthers to a thrilling 5-4 victory on Friday night.
Marchand Strikes in Second Overtime
With both teams battling deep into the night, it was Marchand who delivered the final blow. At 8:05 of the second overtime, he broke free and slid a backhander through Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner’s legs. The arena erupted. The series was tied.
This marked Marchand’s sixth goal of the playoffs and cemented his place as one of the key figures in this year’s Stanley Cup Final.
Panthers Show Road Power in Stanley Cup Final
The Panthers continue to shine away from home. Their Game 2 win boosts their road playoff record to an impressive 9-3. Sergei Bobrovsky stood tall in net, stopping 42 shots to anchor Florida's effort in a game filled with twists and momentum shifts.
Florida’s scoring came from a spread-out effort. Alongside Marchand’s double, Sam Bennett, Seth Jones, and Dmitry Kulikov each netted a goal. The team’s offense showed resilience and chemistry — a promising sign as the Stanley Cup Final heats up.
Oilers' Hot Streak Ends Despite Late Comeback
The loss ended Edmonton’s five-game winning streak. They now hold a 7-2 home record in the postseason. Despite the setback, the Oilers showed their own brand of fight.
Evander Kane kicked things off with a strong solo effort to score his sixth of the playoffs. Evan Bouchard and Leon Draisaitl followed with slick goals, while Corey Perry forced overtime with a gritty, last-minute equalizer.
Stuart Skinner made 37 saves but was ultimately outdueled by Bobrovsky in the goaltending battle.
Wild First Period Sets the Tone
This Stanley Cup Final game erupted early. Florida opened the scoring just two minutes in on a power play. Nate Schmidt set up Sam Bennett, who fired home his 13th of the playoffs — and broke an NHL record for most road goals in a single postseason.
Edmonton responded quickly. Kane tied it at 1-1 with a perfect shot off the post. Then Bouchard gave the Oilers a brief lead, cleaning up his own rebound for his seventh goal.
Florida’s Seth Jones leveled the game again, but the Oilers answered almost immediately. After a controversial penalty sent Bennett to the box for goalie interference, McDavid danced past defenders and set up Draisaitl for his 10th playoff goal.
It was the highest-scoring first period in a Stanley Cup Final since 2016 — a true firework show from both sides.
Mid-Game Momentum Shifts and A Dramatic Finish
In the second period, Florida clawed back. Kulikov tied the game 3-3 with a deflected shot that pinballed off Bouchard and the post. Minutes later, Marchand struck short-handed, beating Skinner five-hole for a 4-3 lead.
Just when it looked like the Panthers would close it out, Edmonton refused to back down. With their goalie pulled and only 18 seconds on the clock, Perry scrambled through a crowd to knock in the game-tying goal — his eighth of the playoffs.
Extra Time Drama: Missed Chances and Marchand's Redemption
The first overtime was chaotic. Florida created multiple golden opportunities. Marchand nearly ended it with a shot under Skinner that hit the post. Sam Reinhart also had a clear breakaway but missed the target.
But Marchand would not be denied. In the second overtime, he got another breakaway — and this time, made no mistake.
Series Now Even: All Eyes on Game 3
With the Stanley Cup Final now tied at one game apiece, the pressure shifts back to Florida for Game 3. Both teams have shown they can score, defend, and come back from deficits. The rest of this series promises to deliver more unforgettable moments.
Stay tuned. This Stanley Cup Final is just getting started.
