What was meant to be a weekend of eerie thrills in Gettysburg turned tragically real.
Dan Rivera — a beloved paranormal investigator, U.S. Army veteran, and the face of the viral "Annabelle" doll tour — died suddenly in his hotel room on July 13, just hours after leading a sold-out ghost tour.
He was 54.
A Haunting Farewell at a Haunted Site
The “Devils on the Run” tour had drawn massive crowds all weekend to the historic Soldiers National Orphanage. Fans came from near and far to catch a glimpse of the notorious Annabelle doll, rumored to be cursed and famously linked to real-life investigations by Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Rivera, known for his wit, warmth, and deep knowledge of the supernatural, led one of the final viewings on Saturday evening — entertaining guests, calming nerves, and even joking about viral conspiracies linked to the doll’s travels.
No one expected it would be his last tour.
Emergency in the Night
On Sunday night, emergency crews were called to Rivera’s hotel after he was found unresponsive. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. Adams County officials confirmed the death is not suspicious. An autopsy is underway, though results may take months.
He was found alone. The doll, sealed in its protective case built by Rivera himself, had already left the venue.
The Man Who Protected You from Spirits
If you ever attended one of Rivera’s shows, you likely remember his signature advice — straight from his late mentor Lorraine Warren:
"Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a halo of white light."
That was Dan Rivera. A man who truly believed in what he did, not just for spectacle, but to help people feel safe when exploring the unknown.
His passion wasn't a performance. From TikToks to TV shows to private family consultations, Rivera brought the mysterious to the mainstream with honesty, humour, and care.

Remembered by the Paranormal World
As news of his passing broke Monday night, the paranormal community erupted in grief and gratitude.
“He was one of the kindest, most genuine, and funniest guys I’ve ever known,” said Mary Jo Chudley of Penn Paranormal.
Tour partner Ryan Daniel Buell called Rivera a “guardian of the Warren legacy” who introduced a new generation to Ed and Lorraine’s work. Buell also shared how Rivera cared for Lorraine in her final years and quietly helped families with unexplainable hauntings — far from the public spotlight.
His Spirit Lives On
Rivera’s life was defined by curiosity and compassion. Long before his viral fame, he was a quiet seeker of the truth. Dan attended Warren lectures, founded his own paranormal group, and eventually stepped into the leadership role at NESPR.
In one of his old posts, Rivera reflected on death:
"We leave a piece of ourselves with the people we meet. That’s how we live on."
Now, those pieces live in thousands — the believers, the skeptics, the fans, and the friends. And just like the stories he loved to tell, his own will be passed on.
After all, legends never really die.
