Authorities arrested the parents of seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro on suspicion of murder Friday. Emmanuel went missing last Thursday in Yucaipa, California. Police continue to search for the infant.
Mother’s Initial Claim
Emmanuel’s mother, Rebecca Haro, told authorities she was attacked while changing her son’s diaper in a store parking lot. She said someone hit her from behind and knocked her unconscious. When she woke up, her baby was gone.
“I got him out of the car seat, and I laid him down so I could get his diapers ready, and somebody said, ‘Hola,’ and that’s all I remember. I saw white, and I fell on the floor, and as soon as I got up, I couldn’t find my son. I checked all around my truck,” Rebecca said, showing a black eye.
She claimed she did not see the attacker. Police found no security footage capturing the disappearance.
Investigation Reveals Inconsistencies
Authorities reviewed Rebecca’s story and noticed inconsistencies. She stopped cooperating with investigators when confronted. Officials also interviewed Emmanuel’s father, Jake Haro. The sheriff’s department has not detailed what the inconsistencies were.
Over the weekend, investigators followed reported sightings of Emmanuel but have not located him. Authorities seized a car belonging to the father earlier this week.
Ongoing Police Efforts
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department continues searching the area with K9 scent-tracking teams. Officials say Emmanuel remains their top priority.
“We know the community is deeply concerned about this case and we will continue to provide information, to the extent it does not jeopardize the investigation,” the department said. “Our investigators have followed up on the reported sightings of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, but he has not yet been located.”
The department also reported a nearby fire in the neighborhood and is coordinating with fire investigators. Currently, there is no evidence linking the fire to Emmanuel’s disappearance.
Description of Emmanuel Haro
Emmanuel weighs about 21 pounds and measures approximately 24 inches tall. He has brown hair and brown crossed eyes. He was last seen wearing a black Nike onesie.
Authorities urge anyone with information about Emmanuel’s whereabouts to contact the sheriff’s department immediately. Investigators continue to piece together events leading to the baby’s disappearance while pursuing all leads.
