Pepsi has put small batches of its new Pepsi Prebiotic Cola online well ahead of the full 2026 store release. Pepsico
Soft drink lovers can now try Pepsi’s new prebiotic sodas months before their planned release. The company announced earlier this year that Pepsi Prebiotic Cola would reach stores in early 2026. However, limited supplies have now appeared online, giving shoppers a chance to taste the drinks ahead of schedule.
Pepsi released the early batches on Black Friday. Shoppers can find eight-packs of both flavours — Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla — on Amazon, Walmart’s website, the Pepsi TikTok Shop, and in select regions through Kroger, DashMart, and Gopuff. The company said supplies will remain limited until the full rollout in 2026.
Shoppers watching the Black Friday football game between the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles on Amazon Prime Video can also order the drinks directly from their screens.
Pepsi Describes the Drinks as a Fresh Take
Pepsi says the new product brings something different to its long-running cola line. “This breakthrough innovation upholds the iconic taste of Pepsi that people love, now with no artificial sweeteners, lower sugar and functional ingredients,” said Gustavo Reyna, the company’s vice president of marketing.
The launch comes several months after PepsiCo completed its purchase of Poppi, a popular prebiotic soda brand. That deal, valued at $1.95 billion, expanded PepsiCo’s lineup of healthier soft drink options. Prebiotic sodas, like Poppi and Olipop, have grown in popularity among shoppers who want a sweet, fizzy drink with fewer sugars and added fibre. Coca-Cola also joined the trend earlier this year by releasing its Simply Pop prebiotic drinks.
What’s Inside Pepsi Prebiotic Cola
A 12-ounce can of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola contains five grams of cane sugar. That compares to 41 grams of total sugars in a traditional Pepsi. The prebiotic version holds 30 calories, while the classic can contains 150 calories.
The drink also has three grams of prebiotic fibre. By comparison, a regular Pepsi has no added fibre. Carbohydrates drop sharply as well. Traditional Pepsi has 41 grams, while the prebiotic version contains six.
Ingredients in Pepsi Prebiotic Cola:
Carbonated water, cane sugar, soluble corn fibre, caramel colour, phosphoric acid, natural flavour, stevia extract, caffeine.
Ingredients in traditional Pepsi:
Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel colour, sugar, phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid, natural flavour.
What Prebiotic Soda Really Offers
Prebiotic sodas first gained attention in 2018 when Poppi and Olipop promoted drinks containing plant-based fibres meant to support healthy gut bacteria. Most cans offer between 2 and 9 grams of fibre, which falls well below the daily recommendation of 25 to 38 grams.
Poppi faced a lawsuit last year after a consumer said the fibre amount misled buyers. The company settled the case in September 2025 for $8.9 million.
Health experts say prebiotic sodas can be a better choice than traditional soft drinks, but they also urge realistic expectations. “Prebiotic sodas are certainly a healthier alternative to soda for people who are looking for a bubbly and sweet drink and don’t want to completely give up their soda intake,” said Jessica Alfano, a clinical dietitian. She added, “it’s definitely not a product that’s going to cure gut health just from drinking one or two cans a day.”
