Prince William and Princess Catherine visited Pontypridd, a Welsh town that suffered severe flooding last year. They spent time with local businesses and met residents who gathered to see them.
During their visit, they stopped at The Welsh Cake Shop, where they got a hands-on experience in making traditional Welsh cakes. Wearing aprons, they rolled out dough, shaped the cakes, and cooked them on a griddle. Their official Instagram page later shared a photo of them laughing in the kitchen, captioned, “Anyone for Welsh cakes?”
After making the sweet treats, they handed them out to children in the crowd. The visit brought smiles to many faces and highlighted the strength of the community.
This wasn’t William’s first time serving food. In 2023, he surprised customers at a London food truck, handing out plant-based burgers made using eco-friendly innovations from Earthshot Prize winners. The Earthshot Prize is a 10-year initiative he launched to help restore the environment.
The royal visit happened just days before Saint David’s Day, which Wales celebrates every year on March 1. Their presence lifted the spirits of the town, which was hit hard by flooding from Storm Bert in November. Just weeks later, Storm Darragh caused even more damage.
“The resilience in the community here affected by flooding is remarkable,” the couple shared on their Instagram.
This visit marked another step back into public life for Princess Catherine, who took time off last year for cancer treatment. She completed chemotherapy in September and has since returned to royal engagements. One of her first solo visits was to the cancer hospital where she received care.
Earlier this month, the royal couple shared a heartfelt Instagram post for Valentine’s Day. The photo, showing them together, was simply captioned with a red heart emoji.
