A tragic accident occurred in Cuba involving a bus carrying Quebec tourists. The collision left one person dead and 26 others injured.
According to reports, the bus, transporting passengers who were on the Montreal-bound flight TS715, was involved in the crash near the Santa Clara Airport. Air Transat, the airline operating the flight, confirmed that 38 passengers from the flight were on board the bus at the time of the accident. Bernard Côté, a spokesperson for Air Transat, stated that an oncoming car lost control and collided with the bus, causing it to overturn.
The incident took place in the Camajuaní municipality, approximately 25 kilometers east of the airport. All passengers, including those from the flight, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Côté expressed concern for the well-being of everyone involved and mentioned that Air Transat arranged hotel accommodations for passengers who required further observation or were suffering from minor injuries.
Initial reports from Cuban media indicated that the individual who died in the accident was a Cuban citizen who was in the car that collided with the bus. Additionally, six children were among the injured, with one person listed in critical condition.
Global Affairs Canada issued a statement acknowledging the incident and offering consular assistance if needed. However, they stated that they had not yet received any requests for such assistance.
