On her 77th birthday, Queen Camilla fulfilled her royal duties by joining King Charles at the State Opening of Parliament. This important ceremony marks the beginning of a new parliamentary session and is steeped in centuries-old traditions.
Just 12 days prior, King Charles had appointed new Prime Minister Keir Starmer following the Labour Party's victory in the recent general election. The State Opening is a significant event, showcasing the monarch's role as head of state.

Traveling in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, Charles and Camilla donned their regal robes upon arriving at the Palace of Westminster. The King wore the impressive Imperial State Crown, adorned with 2,868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, five rubies, and over 270 pearls, weighing more than a kilogram. Queen Camilla, on the other hand, wore the George IV Diadem, a stunning piece that dates back to 1820 and features 1,333 diamonds and 169 pearls.

During the event, King Charles delivered his speech from the throne in the House of Lords, outlining the new government’s plans. His address, crafted by the newly elected Labour government, emphasized themes of security, fairness, and opportunity. Among the proposed initiatives were plans to nationalize the railways and improve infrastructure and housing across the nation.

The State Opening followed a recent visit by Charles and Camilla to the Channel Islands. While there, the Queen was seen with a bandage on her ankle, indicating she was nursing a sprain from a previous incident.

To mark her birthday, the royal family shared a lovely photograph of Camilla on Instagram, where she was seen wearing a green leaf print dress while greeting attendees at the Sandringham Flower Show earlier this year. The Prince and Princess of Wales also celebrated her special day by sharing a heartfelt message featuring a photograph of her taken by Kate Middleton for a special royal edition of Country Life.

As part of the ceremonial procession, the Imperial State Crown was transported in a carriage, alongside the Cap of Maintenance and Sword of State, escorted by troopers from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. The Imperial State Crown, which contains over 3,000 precious stones, was originally made for Queen Victoria's coronation in 1838.
