In a surprising turn of events at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, La Liga's bottom-placed team, Almeria, initially took a 2-0 lead against Real Madrid, only to succumb to a 3-2 defeat in a match clouded by controversy.

The improbable start saw Almeria seizing the lead just a minute into the game, with Largie Ramazani finding the net after a well-timed run. Edgar Gonzalez doubled the underdogs' advantage with a remarkable long-range shot a couple of minutes before halftime, leaving Real Madrid in a precarious position.

The second half unfolded with questionable refereeing decisions and a late-game drama that saw Real Madrid making a comeback. They secured a penalty in the 57th minute, with VAR intervention deeming Kaiky Fernandes' handball. Jude Bellingham successfully converted the penalty, narrowing the gap.

In the 63rd minute, Almeria seemed poised to extend their lead to 3-1, but VAR intervened again, disallowing Sergio Arribas' goal due to a perceived foul on Dion Lopy. Real Madrid capitalized on the turn of events, as Vinicius Junior netted the equalizer in the 67th minute. VAR reviewed a potential handball but controversially deemed it a shoulder contact, allowing the goal to stand.

The match reached its climax in the 99th minute, with the fourth official signaling 11 minutes of stoppage time. Bellingham's header set up Dani Carvajal for a close-range finish, securing Real Madrid's victory and marking the latest game-winning goal in La Liga history.

Post-match, Almeria players expressed frustration with the refereeing decisions. Defender Marc Pubill criticized the officials, stating, "Someone had decided that we couldn't win here," while midfielder Gonzalo Melero felt they had been "robbed."

On the other side, Real Madrid players and manager Carlo Ancelotti defended the referee's decisions. Carvajal asserted that upon calm analysis, all decisions were correct, emphasizing VAR's role in ensuring fairness in football. Ancelotti echoed these sentiments, stating, "Referee's decisions were correct today. I understand the reaction from Almería, but it was all correct." The contentious match left both teams with differing perspectives on the role of VAR in the game.
