With Kylian Mbappe's imminent arrival, Real Madrid faces a tactical conundrum. How will Ancelotti balance the squad to fit the French star while maintaining competitiveness? (Getty Images)

March 01, 2024

Kylian Mbappe is on the verge of becoming a Real Madrid player, with an official announcement expected soon. The French international has long been admired by Real's president, Florentino Perez, and Mbappe himself has expressed a childhood dream of playing for the club. His imminent arrival poses a challenge for Real Madrid's coach, Carlo Ancelotti, as he will need to integrate Mbappe into an already star-studded lineup.

Mbappe has been in top form for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) this season, scoring 32 goals and providing four assists across all competitions. His versatility is evident, with goals coming from both central and left-sided roles. This poses an interesting tactical challenge for Ancelotti, as Mbappe's preferred position is central, but he has been more prolific from the left.

The departure of Karim Benzema has left a void in the central position, which Ancelotti has tried to fill with various players, including Vini Jr. and Rodrygo. However, the standout performer has been Jude Bellingham, who has excelled in a more advanced role. If Mbappe's arrival pushes Bellingham into a deeper role, it could allow Ancelotti to shift to a 4-3-3 formation, making Real Madrid even more dangerous.

One player who may not fit into this new setup is Rodrygo. While he has improved his goal-scoring numbers, his efficiency and role in the team are in question. A more traditional winger, such as Endrick from Palmeiras, could be a better fit for the revamped Real Madrid.

Overall, Mbappe's arrival presents both opportunities and challenges for Real Madrid. Ancelotti will need to find the right balance in the team to accommodate the French superstar while maintaining the team's competitiveness.
