Rosie Roche, a cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry, has died at the age of 20. Her body was found at her family’s home in Norton, Wiltshire, on Monday, July 14. A firearm was discovered near her, according to reports.
Rosie was the granddaughter of Princess Diana’s uncle and was closely related to the royal family. Her death shocked many who knew her.
Family discovered her before trip
Reports say Rosie was getting ready for a vacation with friends. Her mother and sister found her shortly after she began packing. A firearm was reportedly found inside the home. Authorities have launched an investigation into her death.
The Wiltshire and Swindon coroner confirmed the case is under review. The investigation has been paused until October 25.
Coroner Grant Davies stated the police “have deemed the death as non-suspicious” and confirmed that “there was no third-party involvement.”
A bright student remembered with love
Rosie was a student at Durham University. She was studying English Literature and was known as a bright, caring young woman.
A family spokesperson said, “She will be sorely missed.” Her relatives shared loving memories in an obituary, calling her a “darling daughter, sister, and granddaughter.”
The obituary read: “Rosie Jeanne Burke. Died on Monday 14th July 2025. Darling daughter of Hugh and Pippa, incredible sister to Archie and Agatha, Granddaughter to Derek and Rae Long.”
The family has chosen to hold a private funeral. A public memorial service will be planned later.
Other recent loss in royal circles
Rosie’s death comes just over a year after the tragic loss of Thomas Kingston, husband of Lady Gabriella, who was also found dead with a gun nearby. He died in February 2024 at the age of 45.
Kingston’s death, described as sudden and “impulsive,” deeply affected the royal family. His wife, Lady Gabriella, later revealed he had been taking medication that may have influenced his mental state before his death.
Both deaths have raised questions and brought public attention to mental health and the pressures faced by individuals close to the royal family.
No public statements from royals
Neither Prince William nor Prince Harry has spoken publicly about Rosie’s death. A spokesperson for Prince William declined to comment. The family has asked for privacy as they cope with their loss.
As loved ones mourn Rosie, her memory remains with those who knew her. Friends, family, and the public await the results of the investigation later this year.
