Dylan Samberg sealed a thrilling comeback for the Winnipeg Jets, scoring 1:47 into overtime to secure a 3-2 win over the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night. The Jets erased a two-goal deficit to claim victory, extending their strong run with five wins in their last six games.
Winnipeg’s Fightback
Seattle started strong, taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. Jani Nyman struck on a power play midway through the period, and Michael Eyssimont doubled the lead with under five minutes remaining. However, Winnipeg responded before the break, as Cole Perfetti found the net with just 17 seconds left in the first period.
The Jets carried that momentum into the second period. Kyle Connor, assisted by Morgan Barron, scored his 36th goal of the season with 8:18 remaining, tying the game 2-2. The teams remained locked in a tight battle, setting the stage for an intense finish.
Overtime Heroics
The game reached its climax in overtime. Perfetti made a dynamic play, speeding down the right side before delivering a sharp pass across the crease to Samberg. The 25-year-old defenseman took advantage of the opportunity, sending a shot past Kraken goalie Joey Daccord to complete the comeback.
Goaltending Drama
Jets goaltender Eric Comrie made 14 saves but had an eventful night. He left the game early in the first period after a collision but returned after backup Connor Hellebuyck briefly stepped in, stopping five of six shots in his 10-minute stint. Meanwhile, Daccord put up a strong effort for Seattle with 23 saves.
Key Turning Point
A crucial moment came in the second period when Seattle’s Ryker Evans, who had an assist earlier, had his shot blocked by Barron. The puck bounced perfectly to Connor, who raced toward the goal and beat Daccord with a forehand shot, tying the game at 2-2.
Game Stats and Standings Impact
The Jets dominated the physical game with a 37-21 advantage in hits. With this win, Winnipeg edged two points ahead of the idle Washington Capitals for the league’s top spot. Meanwhile, Seattle continued to struggle, slipping to a 4-5-1 record in their last 10 games and falling 10 points behind a wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
