The beloved SmartLess podcast trio—Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes—are back with something totally unexpected. And no, it’s not a spinoff show or another celebrity collab. It’s a phone company.
On Tuesday, the comedy stars announced the official launch of SmartLess Mobile, a direct-to-consumer wireless service that ditches the jargon, cuts the cost, and keeps things refreshingly simple.
A Phone Plan That Matches the Podcast’s Vibe
SmartLess Mobile isn’t just a clever name. It’s a bold move to disrupt the phone carrier market—celebrity-style. The podcast hosts say they created the brand to reflect what people really want from mobile plans: fair pricing, honest messaging, and no unnecessary data upsells.
“We’re done overpaying,” said Arnett. “If you use less, you should be spending less. It’s that simple.”
Plans start as low as $15 a month and top out at $30, with lifetime pricing promises. That means no sudden price hikes months into your contract—just straightforward service with transparent rates.
Who Needs Unlimited Data, Anyway?
Hayes pointed out a key selling point: “If you own your phone, spend most of your time on Wi-Fi, and still pay for unlimited data, SmartLess Mobile could literally cut your bill in half.”
The service targets the average mobile user who rarely burns through their data allowance but still ends up paying premium prices.
By focusing on what people actually use, the company hopes to carve out a niche among customers tired of bloated plans and confusing contracts.
Built on T-Mobile's Powerful Network
Despite its low price, SmartLess Mobile promises premium coverage. It runs on T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network, covering the contiguous U.S. and Puerto Rico. A detailed coverage map is already live on the official website.
Users can also keep their existing phone number. Setup is quick, thanks to a streamlined, QR code-based activation process that takes only minutes.
Celebrity-Driven, Industry-Backed
SmartLess Mobile isn’t just a celebrity vanity project. Alongside Arnett, Bateman, and Hayes are industry heavyweights Paul and Jeni McAleese. Paul, formerly the CEO of Shaw Communications, now leads the new venture as its CEO. Jeni takes on the role of Chief Brand Officer.
The company is backed by Thomvest Asset Management, adding further credibility to this unconventional but promising telecom startup.
Following Ryan Reynolds’ Footsteps?
The podcast hosts are now part of a growing trend—celebrities in the phone business. Ryan Reynolds made headlines when he became the face of Mint Mobile, which later sold to T-Mobile for a whopping $1.35 billion.
SmartLess Mobile seems to be following a similar path: offer real value, keep it fun, and build loyalty through trust—not gimmicks.
And their tagline says it all: “Don’t get outsmarted. Get SmartLess.”
The message is clear. The SmartLess team isn’t just cracking jokes anymore—they’re out to shake up the phone industry, one honest plan at a time.
