Sophie Nyweide, a young actress known for her roles in the films Mammoth and An Invisible Sign, has tragically passed away at the age of 24. Her death occurred on April 14, 2024, in Bennington, Vermont.

Although the cause of her death has not been officially released, her mother, actress Shelly Gibson, confirmed that Nyweide had been struggling with drug use. A police investigation is currently underway.

Shelly Gibson told TMZ, “My knowledge is she was using drugs and was a tiny young woman. She was with other people when she died.”

Nyweide’s obituary painted a picture of a bright and talented young woman. It described her as a “beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend, and new aunt.” It highlighted how she had dreamed of becoming an actor from a young age, even before she knew her mother was in the same profession. The obituary noted that she pursued her dream with passion and ease, impressing everyone around her.

Her family recalled how Sophie seemed happiest on movie sets. She loved transforming into different characters, finding comfort and safety in the environment. The cast and crew who worked with her admired her talent and dedication, as well as her ability to light up the set.

However, the obituary also revealed that Sophie Nyweide faced personal challenges. It mentioned that she struggled with trauma and shame, which led her to self-medicate. Despite her challenges, she always insisted on handling things on her own and refused help, even though treatment might have saved her life.

Her family expressed heartbreak over her loss, reflecting on her vibrant spirit and the talent she brought to the entertainment world. Nyweide’s untimely passing has left those who knew her deeply saddened.
