Stanley Tucci recently opened up about the challenges he faced in his career after The Devil Wears Prada. The actor, who portrayed Nigel in the 2006 hit film alongside Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Emily Blunt, revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that despite the movie’s box office success and its two Oscar nominations, he struggled to find work afterward.
"After The Devil Wears Prada, I couldn’t land a job, and I couldn’t quite understand why," Tucci shared. "That’s just how it went. So I ended up taking on projects that I wasn’t necessarily passionate about, but I had to keep going."
Though Tucci didn’t specify which roles he was less enthusiastic about, he acknowledged that his career has always had its ups and downs. "It’s part of the business. Sometimes it’s for personal reasons that you’re not working, and other times it’s just how the industry works."
Tucci also reflected on how his battle with illness six years ago impacted his career. "Being sick put everything on hold for a while, and I had to slowly rebuild. I needed to work, mostly for financial reasons, and probably returned too soon after my treatments. I didn’t really have the energy, but I had to push through. Eventually, you get back on your feet."
Beyond The Devil Wears Prada, Tucci has had a prolific career, starring in films like The Lovely Bones—which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor—Julie & Julia, Spotlight, Patient Zero, and The Hunger Games series.
While there is talk of a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada in development at Disney, with original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna on board, Tucci has yet to confirm whether he will return to reprise his role.
