As the cozy season settles in, Starbucks is keeping the warmth flowing with a fresh winter menu that’s bound to brighten even the dreariest days. The coffee giant is adding a new espresso option that promises to satisfy both long-time fans and newcomers: the Cortado. Starting tomorrow, customers can enjoy this rich coffee that combines three shots of ristretto espresso with frothy steamed milk for a bold yet smooth flavor.
The Cortado, originating from Spain, gets its name from the word “cortar,” meaning “to cut,” referring to the equal balance of espresso and milk. Traditionally, it's served in a small, four-ounce pour, but Starbucks will offer it in a slightly larger eight-ounce size, still maintaining that signature one-to-one ratio of espresso to milk. For those who prefer a plant-based twist, the Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado will also be available, adding a hint of sweetness with brown sugar syrup and oat milk. However, customers won’t be able to order it iced to preserve the intended flavor profile.

Starbucks has long received requests for this espresso-based drink, particularly from customers in South Florida and Chicago, where it was first tested. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with both baristas and coffee enthusiasts praising its smooth and balanced taste. "It’s an approachable yet bold flavor that appeals to both seasoned coffee lovers and newcomers,” said Ricky Gonzalez, a Starbucks beverage developer.

But the Cortado isn’t the only new addition to Starbucks' winter lineup. Fans of matcha will notice a few changes, too. The matcha latte is getting an upgrade with a new blending process that ensures a smoother, more consistent texture. Plus, the matcha powder will now be unsweetened, giving customers more control over the sweetness. If you like it sweet, the classic syrup will still be available to sweeten up the drink to your liking.

In addition to the coffee updates, Starbucks is also launching a fan-favorite Pistachio Latte for the season. Available both hot and iced, this drink offers a sweet and nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with the winter chill. For those craving something savory, the Spicy Falafel Pocket will be making a permanent appearance on the menu, accompanied by a chipotle almond dipping sauce for a limited time. Alongside the falafel pocket, the Vanilla Bean Custard Danish will return, and a Valentine’s Day Cake Pop is also on the way later this season.

This winter menu is just what the doctor ordered to lift spirits during the colder months. With cozy drinks like the Cortado and Pistachio Latte, along with delicious snacks and pastries, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you're looking for a classic coffee experience or a sweet treat to brighten your day, Starbucks’ winter offerings are sure to make those long gray days a little bit more bearable.
