"Succession" star Sarah Snook, recently crowned with the Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Drama, is set to step onto Broadway for the first time next season. Snook, renowned for her role as Shiv Roy, plans to make her debut in the iconic theatre district after concluding her run in London's production of "The Picture of Dorian Gray," where she also takes the lead.
Scheduled to run from February to May, the one-woman show, an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic novel by Kip Williams, will feature Snook in all 26 roles. The production, initially premiered at the Sydney Theatre Company in 2020, received acclaim during its run in Australia with Eryn Jean Norvill in the lead role. A source has indicated that Snook is ready for the challenge, echoing the sentiment of a Sydney viewer who praised the show as a "tour de force."
The Broadway stint marks a new chapter for the Australian actress, who has previously showcased her talent in live theatre. In 2016, Snook shared the stage with Ralph Fiennes in Henrik Ibsen's "The Master Builder" at London's Old Vic.
Notably, the 36-year-old actress won't be a stranger to the city. Having purchased a $1.83 million apartment in Williamsburg last year, she's poised to make a home in the bustling boroughs during her Broadway debut.
As Snook prepares for her Broadway bow, fellow "Succession" cast members are also gracing stages around the world. Jeremy Strong, who portrayed Kendall Roy, is set to star in "An Enemy of the People" on Broadway alongside Michael Imperioli of "The Sopranos." Brian Cox, known for his commanding role as Logan Roy on HBO's drama, is gearing up for "Long Day's Journey Into Night" in London's West End with Patricia Clarkson.
Meanwhile, another Australian, Michael Cassel, plans to bring a different Sydney production to Broadway during the 2024-25 season. The play in question is a solo performance about Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Suzie Miller, the acclaimed writer of "Prima Facie." The latter, a one-act play, received praise in NYC for its gripping and harrowing narrative, earning Jodie Comer of "Killing Eve" a Tony last year. New York casting details for "RBG: Of Many, One" are yet to be revealed, but the play is expected to shed light on a pivotal chapter in the late Supreme Court justice's life.
