Taco Bell is adding a fresh spin to its iconic Baja Blast. The new flavour, called Baja Midnight, blends the original citrus taste with the tropical sweetness of passion fruit. Fans can enjoy it as a regular fountain drink or as a frozen treat, perfect for hot summer days.

The drink hits Taco Bell locations across Canada and the United States on August 14. While the soda version will stay on the menu permanently, the frozen Baja Midnight Freeze will only be around for a limited time.

Years in the Making

The original Baja Blast launched in 2004 and became a cult favourite among Taco Bell customers. This is the first new Baja flavour in decades, making it a major event for soda lovers. Taco Bell calls Baja Midnight the “next step” in the Baja Blast legacy, aimed at modern tastes while keeping its classic base.

Crafted to Match the Menu

Taco Bell says Baja Midnight was designed to pair with everything on its menu, from a bean burrito to its spicier creations. The flavour team worked to ensure the passion fruit notes balanced well with the chain’s cheesy, crunchy, and spicy dishes.

A company spokesperson explained, “Mountain Dew Baja Midnight was intentionally crafted to build on the iconic flavour legacy of Baja Blast and evolve for modern tastebuds, especially for Gen Z fans.”

Perks for Rewards Members

To celebrate the launch, Taco Bell will give Rewards members a free Baja Midnight on Friday through its app. Customers only need to place a $5 food order to claim the drink.

Part of a Bigger Trend

Mountain Dew has been experimenting with exclusive flavours for years. Other restaurants have tried unique options, such as Legend at Buffalo Wild Wings and Sweet Lightning at KFC.

Taco Bell teased Baja Midnight earlier this year during its annual Live Más summit, where loyal fans and creators got a first taste. The event also hinted at upcoming menu additions, including new crispy chicken items, bold collaborations, and more drink innovations.

Frozen or Fountain – Your Choice

Fans can grab Baja Midnight in two ways: icy and frozen, or cold and fizzy from the fountain. The frozen version, available only for a short time, offers a refreshing option for summer, while the soda is here to stay.
