Police report that 83-year-old Eleanor Dony was working in her garden outside her Pickering home when she was tragically stabbed to death. CTV
An 83-year-old woman named Eleanor Doney died after a sudden stabbing outside her Pickering home. Police said she was gardening on May 29 around 3 p.m. when a boy she did not know came up and stabbed her many times. She was taken to a trauma center but died from her injuries.
Quick Police Action
After the attack, police warned people to stay indoors as they searched for the suspect. Later that evening, they arrested a 14-year-old boy at his home without any problems. The youth, from Pickering, now faces first-degree murder charges. Law stops police from sharing his name because he is a minor.
Family’s Response
Doney’s family shared a statement on Tuesday. They thanked everyone for their kindness and support during this tough time. They also praised the first responders for their help. The family said Eleanor was a strong Christian, and that faith brings them comfort now.
Community Help and Police Appeal
Police thanked the community for sharing videos and information that helped with the case. They asked anyone with more information, even small details, to come forward and help the investigation.
Police reminded people it is against the law to post photos or share the name of young suspects. Doing so breaks the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Instead, police asked people to share memories of Eleanor and give any videos or info directly to authorities.
