The much-awaited sequel to the 2006 hit The Devil Wears Prada has officially started filming. Fans will see the original stars—Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci—back in their famous roles. Also joining the cast is Kenneth Branagh, who will play the husband of Miranda Priestly, the stylish and sharp editor-in-chief.
A Glimpse into the Story
While the full plot remains under wraps, the sequel is expected to focus on Miranda’s career struggles as traditional magazine publishing declines. She finds herself needing advertising support from a luxury brand—now run by her former assistant, played by Emily Blunt. This sets up a dramatic face-off between mentor and protégé.
Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, also returns. In the original film, Andy left the fashion world to work in news reporting. How she fits into the sequel’s story is still unclear, but her journey is likely to offer another layer of depth to the storyline.
New Faces, Same Runway Drama
The film adds Kenneth Branagh to the cast in a new role. He plays Miranda’s husband, a character not seen in the first film. The sequel will again be directed by David Frankel, with the script written by Aline Brosh McKenna—both of whom helped make the original a success. Karen Rosenfelt also returns as producer.
What Made the Original So Special?
Based on the 2004 novel by Lauren Weisberger, the first movie followed Andy Sachs, a young journalist who landed a job many dream of—assistant to the powerful Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine. The story was filled with drama, fashion, and personal growth. Many believed the book and film were inspired by Weisberger’s own time working with a major fashion editor.
With the original’s lasting popularity, fans have been hoping for a follow-up for years. The film became iconic not just for its sharp wit and fashion moments, but for its performances. Streep earned an Oscar nomination for her unforgettable portrayal of Miranda.
When Can You Watch It?
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to release in theaters on May 1, 2026. The announcement was made with a teaser image of two red heels—an instant nod to the fashion-forward world of Runway.
