The fight against Gilead comes with a heavy price. Many have lost their lives, and the second last episode shows even more bloodshed. The Mayday group planned to kill commanders by putting sedatives in Serena and Commander Wharton’s wedding cake. June and Moira dressed in red to secretly give handmaid's weapons during the wedding. The plan went well, but things quickly took a dangerous turn.

No one gets a trial. June, Aunt Lydia, and others face harsh punishments right away. This tense episode keeps viewers on edge. Two main characters meet shocking fates at the end. Elisabeth Moss, who plays June, also directed this episode. She handled both roles with skill.

Escape and Danger

The episode starts with June, Moira, Janine, and others running for freedom. They are escaping to safety while “Look What You Made Me Do” plays.

Explosions show the Guardians fighting back. In the trucks, Aunt Phoebe reveals her real name is Ava. They talk about who will keep fighting and who will stay safe. Janine wants to stay to protect her daughter Angela.

The Guardians block their escape and demand June reveal herself. She does, to save others. Serena tries to escape too but finds few options. She runs to Commander Lawrence’s house and sees a handmaid attack a wife. The next day, Naomi calls Wharton to tell him Serena’s location.

Wharton talks with Lawrence about what to do after the attack. He asks Serena for forgiveness and says they will try for a baby without a handmaid. Serena is doubtful. Wharton reveals June used the wedding to plan the attack that killed 37 commanders. He calls June evil and promises justice. Serena worries about what will happen next.

The Public Execution

Wharton lets June meet him face-to-face. They argue about who is right before God. June stays brave, which unsettles Wharton. He is ready to hold a public execution. Ava’s cover is blown and she stands with a noose around her neck. June and Aunt Lydia also face hanging. Aunt Lydia, full of anger, calls the handmaids “prisoners of wicked Godless men” and shows she is part of the fight.

Before the hanging, Wharton offers June to say last words. She prays then shouts, “Don’t let the bastards grind you down.” The execution begins, but Mayday operatives attack. Grenades and gunfire free the handmaid's. Rita saves June by shooting the crane operator. Ava is revealed to be a CIA agent, surprising everyone.

American bombers fly overhead. Wharton escapes during the chaos. Nick is at the hospital with Rose, who wants him loyal to Gilead. He does not resist much.

June’s Fight to Save Lives

Serena is in protective custody. June talks to her, trying to get useful information. June tells Serena she ruined her wedding and has no regrets about the dead commanders. Serena finally admits the commanders will fly to Washington, DC.

Lawrence tries to stop the commanders by planting a bomb on their plane. June offers to help, but Lawrence says no. The security is poor and June is a wanted woman, but they try anyway. The commanders arrive early and ruin the plan.

Nick appears at the plane, surprising June. He is not the hero she hoped for. The plane takes off and explodes mid-air. Lawrence dies as a hero. Nick leaves the rebellion behind. June cries as the episode ends with a powerful explosion.

The Handmaid’s Tale’s latest episode shows the high cost of rebellion. A bold plan leads to tragedy and hope. June and her allies fight hard, but face danger and loss. Shocking deaths and brave moments keep viewers hooked. The story builds to a powerful finish with courage, sacrifice, and unexpected twists.
