Peacock is turning the page on a new chapter in mockumentary television with The Paper, a fresh and funny spinoff set in the universe of The Office. The streaming platform unveiled the official trailer this week, giving fans a first look at what’s in store — and yes, the obsession with paper continues.
Same Crew, New Story
Years after following the lives of employees at Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, the same documentary team now sets its lens on another paper-centric workplace. This time, they head to Toledo, Ohio, where they stumble upon the Toledo Truth Teller, a century-old newspaper struggling to stay relevant in a digital world.
Once a proud symbol of local journalism, the paper is now a forgotten asset in the hands of its indifferent corporate owner — a company that also sells toilet paper and toilet seat covers.

Enter the Idealist
Domhnall Gleeson stars as Ned Sampson, an ambitious new editor with a vision to revive the Truth Teller. His passion is clear, but his budget is nonexistent. With no funds to hire real journalists, Ned turns to the only people available — volunteers from the non-editorial staff. The camera follows his chaotic yet heartfelt journey, capturing every misstep and minor victory along the way.
To add more tension, Oscar Nuñez reprises his iconic role as Oscar Martinez, bringing in a touch of The Office nostalgia — and some much-needed skepticism about the whole operation.
The Brains Behind the Project
The Paper is co-created by Greg Daniels, the mastermind behind the U.S. version of The Office, and Michael Koman of Nathan for You fame. The series was greenlit by Peacock in May 2024, and Daniels confirmed that several familiar faces from the original Office production team are back on board.
Directors for the first season include Office alumni like Ken Kwapis, Paul Lieberstein, Jennifer Celotta, Matt Sohn, Dave Rogers, and Jeffrey Blitz. They’re joined by Yana Gorskaya, Tazbah Chavez, and Jason Woliner — all bringing their unique touch to the new show.

Packed Cast with Office Roots
Alongside Gleeson and Nuñez, the series stars Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. Guest appearances will feature talents like Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts.
Interestingly, some cast members — Ikumelo, Edelman, Rahill, and Welch — are also part of the writing team, hinting at a layered, collaborative tone similar to The Office.

Release Schedule and Production
Produced by Universal Television, The Paper boasts an impressive list of executive producers. Alongside Daniels and Koman, the team includes Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, plus Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
The 10-episode season premieres on September 4 with four episodes. Two new episodes will drop weekly until the finale on September 25.
With a blend of nostalgia, fresh storytelling, and relatable chaos, The Paper promises to be a compelling new comedy — one that fans of The Office won’t want to miss.
