In Fredericton early Sunday morning, tragedy struck as a collision claimed the lives of three individuals and left two others hospitalized. The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on Douglas Avenue in the city's north end.

According to city police, the crash unfolded when a vehicle, reportedly travelling at high speed, collided with a tree before landing on top of another vehicle. The force of the impact proved fatal for the driver and two passengers within the first vehicle, all of whom succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, two additional passengers from the same vehicle sustained injuries necessitating hospitalization, with one individual described as being in critical condition. However, the identities and ages of the victims have yet to be disclosed.

Fortunately, occupants of the second vehicle involved in the collision emerged with minor injuries, providing some relief amidst the devastating outcome.

Expressing condolences and acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Fredericton Police Chief Martin Gaudet issued a statement extending sympathies to all those impacted by what he termed a "terrible tragedy." The community now mourns the loss of lives and hopes for the swift recovery of those injured, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
