The Detroit Tigers powered their way into the next round of the playoffs, sweeping the Houston Astros with a 5-2 win in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series. A key moment came in the eighth inning when Andy Ibanez hit a crucial three-run double, breaking a 2-2 tie and propelling Detroit to victory. This win marks the end of Houston's seven-year streak of AL Championship Series appearances, a major upset given the Astros' consistent postseason success.

The Tigers’ win was especially significant for their manager, A.J. Hinch, who had previously led Houston to a World Series championship in 2017 before being dismissed in the aftermath of the team’s sign-stealing scandal. Hinch expressed pride in his team’s resilience and the hard work they put in, saying, "Our city is built on grit... This team shows the fight this city deserves."

The game saw Detroit's Parker Meadows hitting a solo home run in the sixth inning to help keep the game close. Later, in the eighth inning, Kerry Carpenter sparked the Tigers' rally with a single, followed by another hit from Matt Vierling. Carpenter tied the game when he scored on a wild pitch before Ibanez’s game-defining hit sealed the win. Detroit now moves on to face the AL Central champions, Cleveland, in the AL Division Series.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Royals also advanced by sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in their Wild Card Series. Bobby Witt Jr., who led the league in batting this season, delivered another game-winning hit, a clutch infield single that put Kansas City ahead in a 2-1 victory over Baltimore. The Royals, overcoming a rough season that included two seven-game losing streaks, now prepare to face the New York Yankees in the next round.

On the National League side, the San Diego Padres eliminated the Atlanta Braves with a 5-4 win in Game 2, securing their spot in the Division Series. Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill both played pivotal roles, driving in key runs during a five-run second inning. Despite a late rally by the Braves, San Diego held on to clinch the series.

In Milwaukee, the Brewers kept their postseason hopes alive by beating the New York Mets 5-3 to even their Wild Card Series. Jackson Chourio was the star of the night, hitting two home runs, including a game-tying shot in the eighth inning. Garrett Mitchell followed with a two-run homer that put the Brewers ahead for good. A decisive Game 3 will be played to determine which team advances.

The Astros’ loss marked their seventh consecutive postseason defeat at home, a shocking streak given their recent dominance in the playoffs, which included four World Series appearances and two titles in the past seven years. The postseason continues with plenty of drama, as both AL and NL teams battle for a shot at championship glory.
