The Tigers’ win was especially significant for their manager, A.J. Hinch, who had previously led Houston to a World Series championship in 2017 before being dismissed in the aftermath of the team’s sign-stealing scandal. On the National League side, the San Diego Padres eliminated the Atlanta Braves with a 5-4 win in Game 2, securing their spot in the Division Series. In Milwaukee, the Brewers kept their postseason hopes alive by beating the New York Mets 5-3 to even their Wild Card Series. Jackson Chourio was the star of the night, hitting two home runs, including a game-tying shot in the eighth inning. Garrett Mitchell followed with a two-run homer that put the Brewers ahead for good.
