With the NHL season winding down, Gabriel Vilardi is having a breakout year. The Winnipeg Jets forward netted two goals, leading his team to a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Friday. His second goal marked a career-best 24th, with 26 games still left in the season.

Vilardi, acquired from the Los Angeles Kings last year, has already shattered his previous records, now boasting 51 points. Staying healthy has been a game-changer for him.

"It feels great," Vilardi said. "Being injury-free has made all the difference, along with playing alongside talented teammates."

His linemates, Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor, set up both of his goals, continuing their dominant play together.

Hellebuyck's Heroics Secure the Win

While Vilardi's performance grabbed headlines, goalie Connor Hellebuyck was the real difference-maker. The Islanders pushed hard in the third period, especially during a late power play, but Hellebuyck stood firm, turning away eight critical shots.

"It's just what he does," Vilardi praised. "He's a rock for us every night."

Hellebuyck finished with 32 saves, earning his NHL-leading 34th win. Even Islanders coach Patrick Roy acknowledged his brilliance.

"We had our chances, but he made some key saves," Roy admitted.

Jets Keep Rolling into the Break

This win extended Winnipeg’s streak to eight straight victories, sending them into the 4 Nations Face-Off break on a high note.

"We’re building momentum," Vilardi said. "Winning now will help us finish strong heading into the playoffs."

Cole Perfetti, who assisted Nikolaj Ehlers on one of the four goals, echoed the excitement.

"It’s a great feeling," Perfetti said. "The break will be even sweeter after this run."

Alex Iafallo also scored a goal, stretching his points streak to four games. Vladislav Namestnikov added an assist, keeping his own streak alive.

On the Islanders' side, Kyle Palmieri, Marc Gatcomb, and Simon Holmstrom found the back of the net. In fighting for a wild-card spot, New York played without Mathew Barzal, who was placed on injured reserve.

Notable Stats & Streaks

  • Winnipeg remains undefeated (30-0-1) when leading after two periods.
  • Islanders forward Bo Horvat, who had 10 points in his last 10 games, was held scoreless.
  • Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin saw his seven-game winning streak snapped.
  • Hellebuyck, Connor (USA), and Josh Morrissey (Canada) played their last game before joining their national teams for the 4 Nations Face-Off.
