Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the long-awaited launch date for its streaming service, Max, across several Asian markets. The service will officially start on November 19 in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The company plans to offer various subscription options, including a mobile-only tier designed specifically for Southeast Asia, with prices differing by country and service provider.
Previously, Warner Bros. Discovery operated the HBO Go service in parts of East Asia. However, Max will replace HBO Go, providing advanced technology and an extensive content library.
“We are excited to introduce Max to more audiences in Asia,” said JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming & games at Warner Bros. Discovery. “Max unites exceptional content from well-known brands like HBO, Discovery, the DC Universe, Harry Potter, AFN, and Cartoon Network, along with major Hollywood films, all in one platform.”
With earlier launches already completed in North America, Latin America, and Europe, the upcoming rollouts in Southeast Asia will expand Max’s availability to 72 markets. The Asia-Pacific region is the last major area that the service plans to fully enter, with additional launches expected in Asia in 2025.
James Gibbons, Warner Bros. Discovery’s president for the Asia-Pacific region, expressed enthusiasm about the new service. “We have always entertained audiences across the Asia Pacific with influential content from our strong brands. For the first time, this programming will be accessible through a new streaming app, offering a vast selection and an exceptional viewing experience,” he stated.
Gibbons hinted at Warner Bros. Discovery’s future streaming goals for the region during the APOS media conference in Bali, Indonesia, in September. While speaking at the event, he discussed the upcoming Southeast Asia launch and mentioned that Australian viewers can anticipate Max’s debut in the first half of 2025.
