A woman in West Kelowna says her home has been under attack — not by burglars, but by a rat. Emmy Logan lives in the Glenrosa area and says the rodent is making her family's life miserable. Since January, the unwanted visitor has caused chaos in her house.
Husband Forced to Move Out
Things have become so bad that Emmy’s husband is now living in a hotel. “Last night, we even put holes in our drywall trying to look for it. I’m so desperate,” she says.
The family first noticed something was wrong when they returned from a vacation earlier this year. A neighbor warned them about spotting a rat near their home. Soon after, their washing machine started leaking.
Damage Adds Up
The repairman told the Logans that a rat had caused the damage. After fixing that, another water line broke, again chewed by the rat. It didn’t stop there. The rat then chewed through the bottom of the washing machine.
That’s when Emmy decided to take matters into her own hands. “So I bought a camera on Amazon and set it up in my ceiling in the basement, and stayed up till 5 a.m. and that appeared at 4:30 a.m.,” she says.
The Rat Stays Hidden
They called a pest control team, who helped seal off the entry points. But even after months of trying, the rat has avoided every trap and bait.
Their cat, known to be a good hunter, has also failed to catch it. “I don’t think our cat even noticed,” Emmy said. “The cat’s on the other side, in the neighbor’s house. It drives them crazy. The neighbors say the cats have been looking at the wall for hours.”
More Damage Every Day
The rat has caused more problems since then. It chewed the drainage line for the air conditioner, destroyed the upstairs shower line twice, and has now started chewing the dryer cord.
To make things worse, Emmy works in home insurance. “Ironically, I work in home insurance and none of this is covered,” she says. So far, the family has spent hundreds of dollars fixing things, and that doesn’t even include hotel costs.
Family Seeks Help and Advice
“We are frustrated because the traps are not working and we need help that doesn’t seem to be out there,” Emmy says. She shared her story hoping that others might offer advice or helpful tips.
For now, the rat remains at large, and the Logan family just wants their peaceful home back.
