Windsor’s annual Labour Day parade will return on Monday, Sept. 1 with the theme “Workers Together, Unions Deliver.” The event will bring thousands of people to the streets and finish with a community celebration in Lanspeary Park.
Parade and road closures
The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. from the Unifor Local 444 hall on Turner Road. The route moves through Seneca Street, Kildare Road, and Ottawa Street before reaching Lanspeary Park. Roads will close at 8:00 a.m. and reopen by 11:00 a.m.
Importance of unity
Leilani Logronio, a member of the Windsor and District Labour Council, said this year’s theme highlights how workers support the community in uncertain times. Rising costs and trade challenges make unity even more important.
“When workers stand together, we don’t just make Canada strong, we deliver progress for everyone. That’s why it’s really important to celebrate the strength of the communities through the Labour Day event,” she said.
Logronio added that standing together for fairness and dignity benefits all Canadians. “It’s a time to recognize how workers shape cities, support our families, and bring people together to build a better future for all,” she said.
Festival at Lanspeary Park
The parade will lead into a festival at Lanspeary Park with speeches, music, and family activities. Visitors can enjoy free entertainment including kids’ games, face painting, and live music. Food and drinks such as hot dogs, ice cream, and refreshments will be available. The park pool will also open for free swimming.
Organizers call the event a celebration of community spirit and the important role of unions in Canadian society. They stress that the festival is free for everyone, making it a chance to gather, honour workers, and enjoy the holiday together.
Celebrating workers’ role in society
The Labour Day parade has been a long-standing tradition in Windsor, reflecting the city’s deep ties to the labour movement. For many families, it marks not just a holiday but also a day of pride in the contributions of workers across industries.
The theme “Workers Together, Unions Deliver” aims to remind the community of the value of solidarity. Organizers believe that through unity, workers can continue to shape a stronger, fairer future for everyone.
