After five years of captivating audiences, Yellowstone has officially ended its journey, leaving fans with mixed feelings following its highly-anticipated season finale. The popular Paramount Network show, which debuted in 2018, wrapped up the Dutton family saga with a dramatic conclusion, offering both closure and a glimpse of what might come next for its beloved characters.
The final episode, airing on Sunday, focused on several key characters, particularly Kayce Dutton, portrayed by Luke Grimes. In a moment that shocked many, Kayce made a difficult decision to “save the ranch.” In a heartbreaking twist, he sold the iconic Yellowstone ranch back to the Broken Rock Indians, its rightful owners. The land, which has been in the Dutton family for generations, was sold for a symbolic price of $1.1 million—just $1.25 an acre, the amount his ancestors paid in 1883. This poignant moment marked the end of an era for the Duttons and set the stage for the future of the land.

Meanwhile, Beth Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly, finally faced off with her brother, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley). In a move that shocked many viewers, Beth made good on her threats and sent Jamie to the infamous “train station,” the show’s euphemism for removing enemies. This cold and calculated act added another layer to Beth’s reputation as one of television’s most complex and fierce characters.

As for Beth and her husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), the finale saw the couple purchase a new ranch, signifying a fresh start and a new chapter in their lives. While the East Camp portion of Yellowstone was retained by Kayce and his family, the rest of the ranch was returned to the Broken Rock reservation, signaling a major shift in the show’s narrative.

Although the episode wrapped up many storylines, it left fans divided. Some viewers praised the conclusion for being poetic and fitting, while others expressed disappointment, comparing it to the controversial Game of Thrones finale. One fan tweeted, “It is official. Game of Thrones is no longer the worst final season of any TV show ever. Yellowstone has taken that award." Another user simply stated, “Dumb ending.”

Despite the mixed reactions, many fans are still eager to see what comes next in the Yellowstone universe. Paramount recently confirmed a spin-off series focusing on Rip and Beth, which has generated excitement among those eager to follow the fiery duo on their new ranch. The spin-off promises more drama, as Beth and Rip’s future remains full of potential.

Additionally, Yellowstone’s success has led to other spin-offs like 1883 and 1923, which explore the historical roots of the Dutton family. Taylor Sheridan, the creative force behind the series, has also teased more projects, including 6666, a show set on the legendary Four Sixes Ranch.

As for Kelly Reilly, she expressed mixed feelings about saying goodbye to her iconic role as Beth Dutton. In an interview, she shared that while she was ready to “put her back in her padlocked box,” she remains open to returning to the character, especially if the story feels right. “Wouldn’t it be fun to watch Beth go to therapy?” she joked.

Yellowstone has left a legacy that fans will continue to reflect on, with plenty of drama yet to unfold in its ever-expanding universe.
