Zendaya and Cher, both icons known for their bold fashion choices, shared a special moment at the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. At the event, Zendaya introduced Cher, the latest inductee, in a dazzling outfit that paid tribute to the music legend’s signature style. The "Dune" star stunned the audience in a vintage 2001 Bob Mackie gown, a nod to one of Cher's most famous looks. The shimmering dress, with its open bodice and midriff straps, echoed a Bob Mackie design Cher wore in 1972. Completing the homage, Zendaya wore her hair pin-straight with a middle part, similar to how Cher often styled hers.
While introducing Cher, Zendaya expressed her admiration for the trailblazing artist. "Thank you, Cher," Zendaya said, "for being an advocate, for being an ally, for paving the way for so many people to live authentically and speak their truth."
Bob Mackie, the renowned American costume designer, has long been associated with Cher, crafting iconic outfits for her throughout her career. His dazzling designs for Cher span over six decades and include unforgettable looks such as the sheer embellished jumpsuit she wore to the 1974 Met Gala and the striking feathered headdress she donned at the 1986 Oscars. Mackie even designed a custom Cleopatra Halloween costume for Cher in 1988. "Every time Cher wore one of those outfits, it would make headlines the next day, all across the country," Mackie once said in a 2019 interview.

Zendaya’s tribute to Cher by wearing the Bob Mackie gown was not the first time a star has drawn fashion inspiration from the music icon. Kim Kardashian famously took inspiration from Cher’s 1974 Met Gala jumpsuit for her own Met Gala appearance in 2015. In 2019, Dua Lipa, who also performed at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, wore a replica of one of Cher’s iconic outfits during a performance in Paris.

Despite the lasting influence Cher and Bob Mackie's fashion partnership has had on celebrities today, it seems the duo won’t be collaborating again. When asked if she planned to wear Mackie’s designs during a performance at the Victoria’s Secret show earlier in the month, Cher gave a firm no. When an Entertainment Tonight reporter suggested she could still "bring it," Cher humorously reminded them, "I’ve brought it, baby," emphasizing that her iconic fashion moments are part of her legendary past.
