Two giants of Quebec cinema, Denis Villeneuve and Patrick Huard, are set to be honored at this year's Canadian Screen Awards, according to the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television.

Villeneuve, acclaimed for his directorial prowess, will receive the prestigious Academy Icon Award. This recognition celebrates his significant and ongoing contributions to the media industry. Villeneuve's journey began in the French-Canadian art house scene and has led him to the pinnacles of Hollywood. Notable among his achievements is his Oscar-nominated film "Incendies" in 2010, marking his breakthrough. Since then, he has solidified his position with blockbuster hits like "Blade Runner 2049" in 2017, showcasing his versatility and creative depth.

Meanwhile, Patrick Huard, a versatile actor and director from Montreal, will be honored with the Earle Grey Award. This award acknowledges Huard's exceptional body of acting work in Canadian television and film. Huard's repertoire includes memorable performances in films such as "Starbuck," "Les Boys," and "Bon Cop Bad Cop," the latter of which he co-wrote and is currently in development as a television series.

These special awards will be presented during Canadian Screen Week, a series of events commencing on May 26 and culminating in a televised gala on May 31.

In addition to Villeneuve and Huard, Michael MacMillan, co-founder, and CEO of Blue Ant Media, will be honored with the Industry Leadership Award. This accolade recognizes his innovative contributions and leadership within Canada's media industry.

Previously announced special honorees for this year's Canadian Screen Awards include the late Indigenous filmmaker Jeff Barnaby, actors Devery Jacobs and Lamar Johnson for the Radius Award, actor Tonya Williams for the Changemaker Award, and morning show host Marilyn Denis, who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. These individuals have each left indelible marks on the Canadian entertainment landscape, enriching it with their talent, dedication, and vision.
