Award-winning actor Tatiana Maslany celebrated her induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame with a heartfelt event in Regina. Held at Hotel Saskatchewan, the gathering attracted a large audience of friends, family, and supporters from her hometown.
Addressing the crowd, Maslany expressed her disbelief and gratitude, saying, “This is so, so surreal. It means so much to me to have all of you in this room.” She credited Regina’s community for nurturing her passion for acting and helping her navigate the challenges of her career.
Maslany’s induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame occurred in 2022, with the initiative allowing her to mark the occasion in her hometown. As part of the celebration, Maslany also chose the location for her “Hometown Star,” a commemorative plaque installed at a site of her choosing.
During her speech, Maslany acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Do It With Class Young Peoples Theatre and other supporters in Regina’s artistic community. She thanked them, saying, “You really did form the artist that I am today.”
As part of the induction process, Maslany received a $10,000 donation to donate to a charity of her choice. She selected Lulu’s Lodge, a facility operated by the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan, which provides transitional housing for LGBTQ2S+ youth facing homelessness.
At the event, guests including Dan McDonald, Maslany’s high school drama teacher, and Tanya Young from the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan, spoke about the crucial support Lulu’s Lodge offers. Young highlighted their efforts, emphasizing, “We offer safe and inclusive housing and a sense of belonging.”
Maslany expressed her gratitude to Lulu’s Lodge, emphasizing the importance of their work in providing safety and resources to LGBTQ2S+ youth. She praised them, saying, “I'm so grateful to Lulu’s Lodge for making a space of safety and giving them the resources they need.”
Born in Regina, Maslany attended Dr. Martin Leboldus High School and performed at Regina’s Globe Theatre from 2003 to 2007. Her career achievements include a Golden Globe nomination and a Primetime Emmy Award for her role in the series Orphan Black.
