Artificial intelligence is no longer just a novelty in travel planning. A recent study shows that more travellers are now turning to AI tools for help with organising and booking trips. The numbers suggest that AI has moved beyond early testing and into everyday use for millions.
The report reveals that one in three U.S. travellers use AI to plan or enhance their trips. This marks a big change in travel habits. Even more striking, 37 percent say they trust AI’s suggestions enough to follow them.
Growing Trust in AI Tools
The study covers surveys done in the U.S., UK, France, and Germany from late March to late April 2025. In the U.S., 33 percent of travellers use generative AI in the travel process. The UK sits at 22 percent, France at 19 percent, and Germany at 15 percent. Experts say strict EU rules may explain the slower growth in Europe.
Still, all countries saw a 3- to 4-point increase in AI travel use from 2024 to 2025. That steady growth suggests adoption is here to stay.
From Planning to Booking
AI is not only helping people choose destinations and activities — it’s also stepping into the booking process. Between 25 and 33 percent of travellers across the surveyed countries are either ready to book trips directly in AI platforms or already let AI book for them.
Experts expect this trend to accelerate as AI integrates shopping and payment features. Digital ID systems are also expected to make AI booking smoother and more secure.
Who’s Leading in Planning Trips?
While the U.S. leads in overall AI use for travel, it doesn’t top the chart for trip planning. France takes that title, with 30 percent of travellers having used AI to plan at least one trip. The U.S. and UK are tied at 19 percent, while Germany comes in at 16 percent.
When it comes to repeat use, 19 percent of Americans have used AI for at least two trips. That’s higher than the UK at 14 percent, Germany at 13 percent, and France at 11 percent.
The Road Ahead for AI Travel
The report predicts even more AI integration in the near future. ChatGPT is expected to gain more fans, travel companies will improve their AI services, and Google plans to roll out AI-powered booking through search and maps.
As these tools get better, experts believe travellers will keep relying on AI for planning, booking, and even navigating trips once they arrive at their destinations.
