An Air Canada flight heading to Toronto from Denver made an emergency return after takeoff on Sunday morning. The airline confirmed that Flight 1038 turned back due to a reported electrical issue. The incident happened on August 31, shortly after the Airbus A220 left Denver.
Acrid smell triggers alarm
Air Canada said the crew noticed a strong smell in one of the galleys. The crew acted quickly and decided to return the plane to Denver International Airport. The aircraft landed safely at around 8:15 a.m. local time.
Emergency evacuation
The airline explained that 117 passengers and five crew members evacuated the plane using emergency slides. The evacuation happened as a precaution. One passenger received minor injuries during the process. Emergency teams arrived on the scene soon after the landing.
FAA launches investigation
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident. In a statement, the agency said the flight crew reported a possible electrical fire. The FAA has opened an investigation to find out what caused the problem.
