A baby cereal brand is being recalled across Canada due to potential contamination by a dangerous bacteria, Cronobacter. Calgary-based Baby Gourmet Foods has announced the recall of its Banana Raisin Oatmeal Organic Whole Grain Cereal, which is sold in 227-gram packages. This recall affects both in-store and online retailers nationwide.
Cronobacter bacteria can cause severe infections, especially in infants. The bacteria can lead to serious or even fatal infections in the bloodstream, central nervous system, and intestines. These infections are particularly dangerous for babies and young children, who are more vulnerable to severe health complications.

The recall was initiated following test results from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) that detected the presence of Cronobacter in the cereal. The CFIA regularly conducts tests on food products to ensure they meet safety standards, and it was through these routine checks that the contamination was discovered.

Baby Gourmet Foods has taken immediate action to remove the affected product from shelves and online listings. The company has emphasized that no other products under the Baby Gourmet or Little Gourmet brands are impacted by this recall. They have also reassured customers that, to date, no illnesses related to the recalled cereal have been reported.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled cereal are urged to stop using it immediately. They can either dispose of the product safely or return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund. Baby Gourmet Foods has set up customer service channels to assist with returns and provide additional information about the recall.

This recall serves as a critical reminder of the importance of food safety, particularly for products intended for infants and young children. The company has expressed its commitment to ensuring the highest safety standards for its products and has apologized for any inconvenience caused to its customers.
