The federal government will roll out its new Canada Strong Pass starting June 20, with the program running through the end of August. Officials say full details will be revealed in the coming days. The pass offers travel perks aimed at encouraging families and youth to explore Canada this summer.

What the Pass Offers

The pass gives free VIA Rail seats to kids under 18 when they travel with a parent. It also gives free admission to national galleries and museums for those under 18. People aged 18 to 24 will get major discounts for the same places.

The program includes free entry to national parks and historic sites for all Canadians from June to August. In addition, it cuts camping costs in those parks for everyone, helping more families enjoy the outdoors.

A Promise from the Campaign

Prime Minister Mark Carney introduced the idea during his recent election campaign. He said the Canada Strong Pass would help bring Canadians together, especially at a time when he said the country faces pressure from outside forces.

Carney explained that this plan isn't just about savings. He called it a step toward unity and pride, giving people more chances to travel and connect across Canada.

VIA Rail’s Role

VIA Rail Canada shared its support for the plan. A spokesperson said the company feels proud to be part of something that motivates families and youth to see more of the country.

This isn't VIA Rail’s first time offering special deals. Back in 2017, for Canada’s 150th birthday, it gave youth the chance to buy unlimited travel passes for the month of July. They planned to release 1,867 passes, but extended the offer due to high demand. Over 4,000 passes were sold that year.

Ministry's Statement

The office of Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, Steven Guilbeault, also commented. His director of communications, Alisson Lévesque, said Canadians have shown strong unity since the start of the year. She added that the Canada Strong Pass will help families choose to explore their own country this summer.

What to Expect Next

Full details about how to get the Canada Strong Pass, where it can be used, and how to claim discounts will be announced soon. The government encourages all families to start planning their summer trips with this new initiative in mind.
