The federal government has brought back the Canada Strong Pass for the holidays. The program runs from December 12, 2025, to January 15, 2026. It offers free and discounted access to travel, parks, and cultural sites. The goal is to help families manage rising costs while travelling within Canada.
The program first appeared in the summer of 2025. It encouraged Canadians to explore their own country. Officials say many families benefited from lower travel expenses during peak periods.
Helping Families Travel More
The Canada Strong Pass focuses on affordability and connection. Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport, praised the program’s impact.
“The Canada Strong Pass offers much more than affordability: it brings people together. I'm proud that VIA Rail is contributing to this measure, which allows Canadians to travel in complete safety and discover the cultural and natural treasures that make our country so rich.”
The winter version builds on the summer success. Officials hope families will travel during the busy holiday season.
What the Pass Offers This Winter
The pass includes several benefits across Canada. Children aged 17 and under receive free admission to national museums. Young adults aged 18 to 24 receive half-price admission. This also applies to the Plains of Abraham Museum.
VIA Rail offers free travel for children when an adult accompanies them. Young adults receive a 25 per cent discount on fares. Parks Canada provides free entry to all its sites. Campers also receive a 25 per cent discount on camping fees.
Many provincial and territorial museums and galleries also participate. They offer free admission for children and reduced prices for young adults.
Strong Results From Summer Program
The government reported strong results from the summer rollout. VIA Rail ridership rose by 6.5 per cent. Visits to Parks Canada sites increased by 13 per cent. National museums saw an average increase of 15 per cent in visitors.
These numbers encouraged officials to bring the program back. The government also confirmed plans to return the pass in summer 2026.
Cultural Leaders Support the Program
Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, welcomed the return.
“After the success of the Canada Strong Pass this summer, our government is reintroducing it to help families save money over the holidays and discover the iconic sites and museums that make our country proud,” he said.
Officials believe the program strengthens national pride while supporting tourism.
How the Pass Works
The Canada Strong Pass does not require registration. It does not exist as a physical card. Visitors simply use eligible discounts at participating locations. Families can use the benefits multiple times during the program period.
Some attractions may operate shorter winter hours. Travellers should check schedules before planning trips.
Who Takes Part
Participating organizations include national museums, Parks Canada sites, and VIA Rail. Many provincial and territorial museums and galleries also joined the program. These locations span the entire country.
The government hopes the program will again boost travel and bring Canadians together during the holidays.
