Croatia has achieved impressive growth in its tourism industry, surpassing its own records in 2024. The country welcomed over 21.3 million visitors, marking a significant rise from the previous years. In comparison, Croatia recorded 19.5 million visitors in 2023 and 17.8 million in 2022. These statistics, highlighted by tourism officials, show the steady increase in Croatia’s popularity as a travel destination.

One of the most remarkable trends emerging from Croatia’s tourism success is the growth beyond the summer months. Traditionally, Croatia’s tourism was known for a busy summer season. However, recent figures show that the country's tourism is now more evenly spread throughout the year. Between January and May 2024, arrivals to Croatia increased by 11%, and overnight stays surged by 12.5%. This shows the growing appeal of Croatia as a year-round destination. Similarly, the months from October to December saw a rise of 10.3% in arrivals and 9.7% in overnight stays, indicating that Croatia’s charm is no longer limited to the peak summer months.

The United States has become an increasingly important source of visitors for Croatia. In 2024, U.S. travelers contributed to the country’s tourism growth, with 776,304 arrivals and 2.17 million overnight stays. These numbers reflect year-over-year increases of 9% in arrivals and 8% in overnight stays, showcasing a strong demand for Croatian tourism from North America.

Looking ahead to 2025, Croatian tourism leaders are focusing on continuing this growth by promoting year-round travel, sustainability, and exploring lesser-known inland destinations. Croatia’s most popular cities, such as Dubrovnik, Rovinj, and Split, continue to attract millions of visitors. However, there is a concerted effort to encourage tourists to explore beyond the well-known coastal cities. Inland regions, which offer their own unique attractions, are being highlighted as key areas for development.

Travel brands, including the Impresia Hotels Collection, are at the forefront of this initiative. The Impresia Hotels Collection includes 17 boutique properties spread across the country, from Pula to Zagreb and Zadar to Dubrovnik. These properties offer immersive cultural experiences that showcase Croatia’s rich heritage while promoting sustainable tourism practices. The goal is to help visitors discover Croatia’s beauty throughout the year, encouraging a more balanced and sustainable form of tourism.

Another important step in Croatia’s efforts to expand tourism is improved air connectivity. United Airlines recently expanded its direct flight service from Newark/New York to Dubrovnik, running through late October. This extended service is making it easier for U.S.-based travelers to visit Croatia, offering greater convenience and accessibility. With increased flights and better connectivity, more travelers from North America can easily explore the country’s diverse landscapes and attractions.

In summary, Croatia’s tourism industry in 2024 has set new records with over 21 million visitors. The country is not only focusing on summer tourism but is also expanding travel during the off-season and promoting lesser-known inland areas. Sustainability is a priority, with efforts to encourage responsible travel and cultural experiences. Improved air links are making it easier for U.S. visitors to explore the beauty of Croatia year-round.
