Dwayne Johnson in The Fate of the Furious - Universal Pictures

A24 released the first image of Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming sports and biographical drama "The Smashing Machine." Directed, written, and produced by Benny Safdie, the film follows the life of former mixed martial arts champion Mark Kerr, portrayed by Johnson. The image showcases Johnson's transformation into Kerr, capturing his imposing physique, which closely matches Kerr's weight of 118 kilograms.

Emily Blunt, who plays Kerr's wife Dawn Staples, also appears in the image, adding depth to the narrative. The casting of Johnson and Blunt marks a reunion after their collaboration in the adventure film "Jungle Cruise."

"The Smashing Machine" delves into the tumultuous life of Mark Kerr, known for his struggles with drug addiction and turbulent relationships. The film promises to offer a raw and authentic portrayal of Kerr's journey, shedding light on both his triumphs and tribulations.

This cinematic adaptation comes after the release of a documentary about Kerr's life in 2002, titled "The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Extreme Fighter Mark Kerr." However, the upcoming film aims to provide a more nuanced exploration of Kerr's story, drawing audiences into the complexities of his experiences.

Scheduled for release in 2025, "The Smashing Machine" is poised to captivate audiences with its gripping narrative and powerful performances. As anticipation builds for this highly anticipated film, fans eagerly await further glimpses into Kerr's remarkable life and the challenges he faced both inside and outside the ring.
