In Lachine, a young man tragically lost his life in a shooting incident while playing basketball on Wednesday evening. Witnesses, including a shocked mother and long-time neighbor, recounted hearing gunshots and cries for help. The community was enjoying the evening when the violence unfolded.

One resident, who preferred to remain anonymous for safety reasons, described the chaos as she heard shots and young voices yelling about the shooting. Another neighbor, residing in the area for 25 years, initially mistook the sounds for fireworks until witnessing the victim lying on the ground. She promptly called emergency services.

According to the Montreal Police Department, the victim, a person in their twenties, sustained at least one gunshot wound to the upper body. However, some residents believed the victim appeared much younger than initially reported.

The neighborhood was in shock, with police cordoning off the area to preserve the crime scene. Concerned parents expressed fear for their children's safety, lamenting the lack of government action despite repeated tragedies. Many residents no longer felt comfortable allowing their children to play outside due to escalating violence.

Residents cited ongoing issues with drugs and escalating violence in the area, contributing to a sense of unease and frustration. The tragic incident left many in the community deeply shaken, especially young witnesses who were traumatized by the events.
