JAMP Pharma recalls digoxin tablets due to possible dosing issues. Canada Newswire

JAMP Pharma Corporation is pulling its digoxin tablets from the market after Health Canada raised concerns about potential dosing issues. The recall affects specific lots of 0.0625 mg and 0.125 mg digoxin tablets, which may contain incorrect doses despite appearing normal.
Digoxin is a vital medication used to treat heart conditions like congestive heart failure and irregular heartbeats in both children and adults. Even minor discrepancies in dosage can result in serious health risks. Therefore, Health Canada emphasizes the importance of returning any affected tablets to the pharmacy for replacement.

Patients using the recalled digoxin tablets should immediately consult their pharmacist. The pharmacist can verify if the tablets are part of the recall and arrange for a replacement. It is crucial to continue taking the medication until this consultation, as stopping abruptly could negatively impact heart conditions.

Signs of digoxin overdose include nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea, confusion, and visual disturbances such as seeing halos or changes in colour vision. More severe symptoms can include irregular heartbeats, fatigue, and seizures. Overdosing on digoxin, or taking a dose that's too low, can be dangerous, especially for children, the elderly, and those with certain medical conditions like electrolyte imbalances or thyroid disorders.

In severe cases, an overdose can lead to life-threatening heart problems. Health Canada is keeping a close watch on the recall to ensure public safety and mitigate risks.
