Metrolinx said special trains and buses will be running to connect passengers to other lines headed for Union Station

Commuters on the Lakeshore West Line will face major disruptions on Monday as Metrolinx suspends GO Train service between Oakville GO and Union Station. The shutdown is part of urgent rehabilitation work on the Etobicoke Creek bridge—essential to ensuring long-term safety and reliability on one of Ontario’s busiest rail corridors.

Critical Track Work Shuts Down Key Route

Metrolinx confirmed that there will be no GO Train service between Oakville GO and Union Station on Monday, November 3, due to intensive bridge replacement work. The project began Sunday and requires complete access to the tracks, which means trains cannot operate during this period.

Originally, this major infrastructure upgrade was planned for earlier weekends but was postponed to accommodate the Toronto Blue Jays’ playoff schedule. With the postseason now complete, crews are moving ahead with the time-sensitive project.

“This work is critical to maintaining safe and reliable service on the Lakeshore West Line,” said a Metrolinx spokesperson.

Limited Train Service and Longer Waits

While the section between Oakville and Union Station remains closed, Lakeshore West trains will continue running every 30 minutes between Niagara Falls and Oakville GO. However, there will be no service at Port Credit, Long Branch, or west from Mimico GO during the closure.

Commuters can expect longer travel times and may need to make alternate arrangements to reach downtown Toronto.

GO Bus Alternatives in Place

To support passengers, GO buses will operate between Oakville and Clarkson GO stations, connecting further to Erindale or Bramalea GO stations. From there, riders can transfer to eastbound trains on the Milton or Kitchener lines to reach Union Station.

To ease congestion, Metrolinx has also added two extra eastbound and westbound trips on the Milton Line. A few trains will depart five minutes earlier than usual, so riders are urged to check schedules before traveling.

Additionally, special trains will operate between Mimico GO and Union Station every 30 minutes, offering limited direct service for central commuters.

Early Morning Trains Resuming Tuesday

The agency announced that two early morning inbound trains will start running Tuesday from Appleby and Aldershot GO stations. Regular service on the Lakeshore West Line is expected to resume at 5:52 a.m. on Tuesday.

Metrolinx thanked riders for their patience during the disruption, acknowledging the temporary inconvenience.

What Commuters Should Expect

Metrolinx cautioned that GO bus connection times may change, and passengers should anticipate longer wait times than usual. The agency is urging travelers to verify their trip details through the GO Transit service updates page or by subscribing to On the GO Alerts for real-time notifications about delays or changes.

Rider Reactions Invited

The weekday closure has sparked mixed reactions among daily commuters, many of whom rely on the Lakeshore West Line for work and school travel. Metrolinx insists that the weekday timing was unavoidable due to the technical demands of the bridge replacement.
