In 2023, Montréal experienced a robust year for business tourism, sustaining the positive momentum from the previous year. The city welcomed over 870,000 visitors and delegates, hailing from both Canada and various corners of the globe, contributing an estimated $425 million to the economic landscape of Montréal and Québec.

The Palais des congrès de Montréal, marking its 40th anniversary, played a pivotal role by hosting 288 events out of a total of 475 business gatherings in the city. Tourisme Montréal supported 224 association conferences, and among the noteworthy assemblies were thirty major conferences, such as the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Annual Congress, the International Council of Nurses Global Congress, and the InCyber Forum.

Montréal continued its dominance as the premier host destination for international association events in North America, as acknowledged by the Union of International Associations (UIA) and the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

In 2023, both Tourisme Montréal and the Palais des congrès demonstrated a commitment to sustainability. They participated in a study on the social impact of business events in Canada, with Tourisme Montréal offering training on sustainable event planning. The Palais took significant steps, expanding its green roof to an impressive 35,000 sq. ft (3,250 m2), contributing to Montréal's status as a greener city and the world capital for urban agriculture.

The Palais also introduced new installations, including the Tourism Innovation Showcase, providing an immersive experience of the city's neighborhoods. Emmanuelle Legault, President and CEO of the Palais des congrès de Montréal, expressed satisfaction with the industry's growth in 2023, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of partners and the dedication of the team.

In collaboration with the Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec, the Palais introduced two new spaces, simulating a ski resort experience and the Saint Lawrence River, bridging the gap between business and leisure tourism. Two additional spaces are set to be unveiled in 2024.

Looking ahead to 2024, Tourisme Montréal has already secured 210,000 overnight stays, projecting an economic impact of $172 million. The Palais des congrès has 170 events scheduled, featuring prestigious summits like the International Symposium on Mathematical Programming, the 119th American Sociological Association Annual Meeting, and One Young World.

Yves Lalumière, President and CEO of Tourisme Montréal, expressed delight at the sustained interest in business events in Montréal, citing it as evidence of the global industry's trust in the city's dynamic, creative, and innovative appeal. The outlook for 2024 appears promising, with a continued focus on enriching the event experience through sustainable and cultural initiatives.
