On Friday, nearly 1,000 people gathered at Port Canaveral for a massive send-off event as Royal Caribbean’s latest cruise ship, the Utopia of the Seas, set sail on its first revenue voyage. The event, dubbed “The World’s Biggest Wave Out,” was a festive celebration designed for local residents, campground guests, and beachgoers.
The party offered an afternoon filled with family-friendly fun. Attendees enjoyed music from a DJ, a bubble machine, and various giveaways. Local vendors added to the festivities with delicious homemade ice cream and hot dogs, making it a true community celebration.

Adding to the excitement, a special parade of ships was organized. It featured the Carnival Cruise Line’s Glory, Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, and Disney Cruise Line’s Wish. The Utopia of the Seas was escorted out of the port by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and Canaveral Fire Rescue’s Fireboat 2, which wowed the crowd with its impressive water cannon display. The ship was also flanked by two of the port’s resident tugboats.

Capt. John Murray, the CEO of Port Canaveral, expressed pride in hosting the event. “Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas is one of the most anticipated new cruise ships in the industry,” he said. “We’re proud to be Royal Caribbean’s partner for this industry-first experience and excited to support the strong market demand for short itineraries.”

Murray emphasized the commitment of Port Canaveral to providing exceptional experiences for cruise guests. “Our team is ready and committed to providing high-quality experiences to help all cruise guests launch their memorable journeys from our Port,” he added.

Port Canaveral is home to two of the three largest ships in the world. With the arrival of the Utopia of the Seas, it now joins Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas. The port is also set to welcome a fourth Royal Caribbean ship, Voyager of the Seas, which will begin its homeport duties at Port Canaveral in November 2026.
