Banff’s Sunshine Village has earned national recognition, ranking as the second-best ski resort in Canada according to readers of Conde Nast Traveler. The popular publication announced its annual list on Tuesday, based on more than 757,000 votes from readers across the United States.

The survey highlights top travel destinations around the world, and Sunshine Village’s high ranking puts it among the country’s most celebrated ski spots.

Kendra Scurfield, vice-president of communications for Sunshine Village, said the honour means a lot to the resort and its staff. “Being ranked among Canada’s top ski resorts is exciting for every member of our team,” she said. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication that go into creating top-tier and memorable experiences for our guests and motivates us to keep raising the bar each season.”

Recognition Among the Best

Sunshine Village sits within the stunning Banff National Park and is known for its breathtaking mountain views, consistent snow, and friendly atmosphere. The resort attracts visitors from around the world each winter with its deep powder, long ski runs, and vibrant alpine village.

A light dusting of snow covered nearby Mount Assiniboine this week — a sign that ski season is just around the corner. The resort has set a target opening date of November 7, depending on weather conditions.

Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia took the top spot in Conde Nast Traveler’s rankings, while Lake Louise Ski Resort, also in Alberta, landed in fifth place.

A Strong Showing for Western Canada

Western Canada’s ski resorts continue to impress travellers worldwide. With Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, and Whistler Blackcomb all placing in the top five, the region’s reputation as a premier ski destination remains strong.

Sunshine Village offers one of the longest ski seasons in the country, often stretching from early November to late May. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy over 3,300 acres of terrain across three mountains, with plenty of trails for all skill levels. The resort’s location — surrounded by some of the Rockies’ most iconic peaks — adds to its appeal for both locals and international visitors.

The team at Sunshine Village says they plan to use the recognition as inspiration heading into the new season. “It motivates us to keep improving every year,” Scurfield said. “We want every guest to leave with memories that last a lifetime.”

More Canadian Winners

Canadians were also celebrated in other categories of the reader survey. The Rocky Mountaineer train, which winds through the Canadian Rockies, ranked third among the world’s best train journeys.

For many, these awards reinforce what Canadians already know — that Western Canada’s mountains offer some of the most beautiful and unforgettable travel experiences on Earth.
