As the year comes to a close, two major cities in the U.S. are drawing travelers from all corners of the country: New York City and Las Vegas. Both destinations have long been recognized as top spots to ring in the New Year, each offering its own unique experience.
For New York City, the choice is clear – Times Square. Famous for its lively ball drop, this iconic event attracts millions of visitors every year. The city has seen a surge in tourism, particularly after recovering from past challenges. “New York City’s tourism sector continues to thrive, reflecting the resilience and global appeal of our city,” said Fred Dixon, President and CEO of NYC Tourism + Conventions. In 2024, the city's tourism numbers were stronger than ever, with a record-breaking $51 billion in direct spending and significant growth in jobs and tax revenue. NYC expects this trend to continue into 2025, solidifying its status as a global tourist hub.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas is preparing for another record-breaking year. Officials from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and Harry Reid International Airport are predicting an increase in visitors for the 2024 New Year’s Eve celebration. "While New Year’s Eve falls on a Tuesday this year, midweek holidays tend to see slightly different travel patterns, with some travelers opting for extended trips," said Luke Nimmo, an airport spokesman. The LVCVA is forecasting that approximately 343,000 visitors will celebrate in the entertainment capital of the world, up from 342,000 last year. Though midweek holidays can lead to different travel habits, Las Vegas continues to draw large crowds, even on weekdays. "When the holiday falls on Friday through Monday, it offers an easier long weekend for many travelers to book," noted Kevin Bagger, vice president of the LVCVA Research Center.

Beyond these two powerhouses, other cities across the U.S. are also gearing up for New Year's celebrations. Orlando, home to the iconic Disney World, is always a popular destination, as is Denver with its Mile High Tree and Mile High Celebration. Seattle, Los Angeles, and Atlanta are also on the list of top cities for ringing in the new year, offering unique local experiences and festive atmospheres.

Both New York and Las Vegas provide unforgettable ways to welcome the new year, each with its own flair – whether it's the iconic ball drop in Times Square or the non-stop entertainment in Las Vegas. As both cities continue to recover and grow in popularity, New Year's Eve celebrations are expected to be packed with excitement, attracting millions of visitors from around the world.
