Nearly a decade ago, upon returning to Canada, my employer informed me I'd need to transition from staff to freelance status, resulting in the loss of company health insurance. However, he quickly corrected himself, noting Canada's universal healthcare system, which he deemed superior for me and my family. At the time, I agreed, but now, I find myself longing for Hong Kong's blend of private and public healthcare services.
Allow me to share some healthcare anecdotes involving individuals in my immediate social circle, whose names have been altered for privacy. These stories involve my own child, referred to as Robyn, as well as my other child's best friend, known as Mark, and the parents of my wife's best friend, referred to as Joan. Given that these anecdotes arise from my close social network, I believe they are indicative of common experiences rather than exceptional occurrences.
