The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for specific Enfamil brand baby formula products due to contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii. The affected product is the Nutramigen A+ LGG Hypoallergenic infant formula, available in both the standalone 561-gram packaging and the pack of four.
In a statement, the CFIA highlighted that food tainted with Cronobacter sakazakii may not exhibit signs of spoilage in appearance or odor but can still pose health risks. While Cronobacter sakazakii is not commonly associated with human illness, it has the potential to cause severe or even fatal infections in rare cases.
The CFIA further warned that Cronobacter sakazakii has been linked to infrequent bloodstream and central nervous system infections, with associations to serious conditions like necrotizing enterocolitis and sepsis, particularly in newborns.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled Enfamil products are strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, they are urged to discard the products or return them to the place of purchase. It is crucial to exercise caution and follow the recall instructions to prevent potential health risks associated with the contamination.
