The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall notice on Saturday for Sweet Cream brand mini patisserie products, including various tarts, cakes, and other baked goods. The products are being recalled due to concerns over potential salmonella contamination, a foodborne illness that can cause serious health risks.

The CFIA's warning was clear: “Do not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products.” The agency emphasized that even though contaminated food may look and smell fine, it can still cause sickness. Salmonella, a harmful bacteria, is responsible for the outbreak, and consuming affected products can lead to a range of health problems.

The recall includes several Sweet Cream products, such as berry tarts, eclairs, cakes, and cannoli. These items were sold in multiple Canadian provinces, including Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec. The recall affects products with best-before dates between June 17 and November 15, 2025. There is also a possibility that these items were sold in different packaging, which might not display the correct product names, brands, or dates, making it difficult for customers to identify the affected goods.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged to carefully check whether they possess any of the recalled items. If they do, the CFIA advises disposing of them or returning them to the store where they were purchased. For customers who are unsure if they have bought any recalled products, they should contact the retailer for clarification.

Anyone who believes they may have gotten sick from eating these baked goods should consult their healthcare provider immediately. The CFIA confirmed that this recall was initiated after an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak, and there have been reports of illnesses linked to the consumption of the Sweet Cream brand baked goods.

Salmonella is a dangerous infection that can cause serious illness, especially in vulnerable groups like young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. The typical symptoms of a salmonella infection include fever, nausea, headaches, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. In some cases, the infection can lead to more severe complications like arthritis.

For those who have consumed the recalled products and are feeling unwell, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Salmonella infections can lead to severe consequences, so quick action is essential to ensure proper treatment and avoid complications.

The CFIA is working to ensure that all affected products are removed from store shelves, and the public is being encouraged to stay alert and report any health concerns related to these items. The safety of consumers is the priority, and the agency is taking swift action to mitigate any further risk from these potentially contaminated baked goods.
