Canada recalls Heavenfull Brownie Skillet with Ice Cream due to plastic contamination. Food Poisoning News

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Schep’s Bakeries Ltd., based in Norwich, Ontario, have issued a voluntary recall for Heavenfull brand Brownie Skillet with Vanilla Ice Cream. The recall comes after concerns that the product might contain pieces of plastic, which poses a significant health risk. Food contaminated with foreign objects like plastic can cause severe harm, including choking, internal injuries, and illness. In some cases, it could even lead to death.
The recall did not specify how the contamination was discovered, but the affected product was distributed in Ontario through retail channels. The recall involves Brownie Skillet with Vanilla Ice Cream from the Heavenfull brand, sold in 8 x 87-gram packages. The UPC code for the affected product is 8 54787 00196 1, and there are several "best before" dates associated with the recall: 2025 NO 04, 2025 NO 05, and 2025 NO 06.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised to stop using it immediately, even if the item looks or smells fine. The presence of foreign objects can be dangerous, and it’s crucial to avoid consuming the recalled product. Customers who have the product should not sell, serve, or distribute it. Instead, they should contact the store where they bought it to inquire about a refund. If a return isn’t possible, the recalled product should be disposed of right away.

While the recall notice does not mention whether any injuries or illnesses have been linked to the contaminated products, consumers who believe they may have been affected should seek medical attention immediately. Plastic in food can cause significant harm, including damage to the teeth, gums, throat, stomach, and intestines. For vulnerable individuals, such as infants, the elderly, or those recovering from surgery, the risks of serious injury are even higher.

The CFIA encourages consumers to reach out if they have further questions or concerns. They can contact the CFIA toll-free at 800-442-2342 or email the agency at [email protected]. Everyone must be aware of the potential hazards of consuming food contaminated with foreign objects and take appropriate action to ensure safety.

The recall has raised concerns about food safety and the potential dangers of contaminated products reaching consumers. While food manufacturers and retailers are expected to adhere to strict safety protocols, recalls like this highlight the importance of vigilance in ensuring that food products are safe for consumption. The CFIA and the bakery are taking necessary steps to prevent further issues, but it remains important for consumers to act quickly if they possess the affected product.
